Poppy

POPPY                                          POPPY

Beloved little soul                           Amata piccola anima
Don’t look at me that way              Non guardarmi così
Your eyes are giving voice              I tuoi occhi danno voce
To your soundless pain                   Al tuo muto dolore
I know you are leaving me              So che mi stai lasciando
I feel this void inside                       Sento il vuoto in me
Stay, little soul, don’t go away        Resta, piccola anima, non andare via

Beloved little friend                         Amata piccola amica
Moments of joy and tears               Momenti di gioia e lacrime
Instants of shared emotions             Istanti d'emozione condivisa
Memories gathered here                 Ricordi qui raccolti
I know that you are leaving             So che mi stai lasciando
But, please, my dear                       Ma, ti prego, amica mia
Stay, little soul, don’t go away         Resta, piccola anima, non andare via

L'uomo che dimenticò di morire/The Man Who Forgot To Die

A short passage from "The Man Who Forgot To Die", the closing short story taken from my collection "The Man Who Forgot To Die"

"...he cut himself off the rest of the world, living in symbiosis with the surrounding nature, speaking to trees and night creatures, smiling at clouds, that each day made a new spectacle, of the view of the impending skies above. When the pale light of dawn slowly found its way into the branches, his eyes opened at the constant miracle of a new day, too. At every sunset, he said goodbye to the sun that had been such a good companion along the hours, with a gentle gesture of his hand towards the infinity of the horizon..."

Sole in Scorpione e Luna in Pesci/Sun In Scorpio Moon In Pisces

A short passage from "Sun In Scorpio Moon In Pisces", taken from my collection "The Man Who Forgot To Die"

"...the men in white are surprised at the obscure power behind their drug, they did not expect it. They are unprepared.
In the meantime, while they are working on an antidote they were not supposed to make use of, I have been left here, in this room. The straightjacket is a necessity, they say, so that I cannot hurt myself. Though I do not know how I could in this soundproof room, whose sponge-like walls absorb any of my attempts to pass them through..."

The Night I Saved The Declining Rockstar's Life

A short passage from "The Night I Saved The Declining Rockstar's Life", taken from my collection "The Man Who Forgot To Die"

"...the sheets are there, so harmless and yet so feared, and he cannot take his eyes off those crumpled pages, as if in the presence of a deceivingly frightening image, that attracts him into its hypnotic coils.
Those pages are silently calling his name. The rockstar sees himself fighting against the viscid tentacles of a sea monster, breaking free of the deadly hold and quickly resurfacing, towards the sun that shines through the waters, towards the open air, that would fill his lungs in need of breath..."

A short passage from "The Fat Woman's Secret", taken from my collection "The Man Who Forgot To Die"

"...and I’ll be the sea breeze that ruffles your hair on the shore, at night. The golden ear of wheat that you’ll caress while running after the wind, and the benevolent skies will look at you from above, gracing your moves with the lark’s pretty song and the mysterious game of the swallow’s flight. And I’ll be water through your thirsty fingers, and fire to keep you warm, when cold weather is stronger than your imagination. I’ll be window and scented tangerine skin, comb and olive branches, path in the wood and seashell, feather pillow and starfish..."

Interpretazione dei sogni/Interpretation Of Dreams

A short passage from "Interpretation of dreams", taken from my collection "The Man Who Forgot To Die"

"...it is not easy to move away from light and penetrate the obscure twists and turns of our own solitude, though. No matter how much artificial light we may bring along with us, it will never be enough to illuminate each hidden corner, those dark and forgotten about recesses of our mind..."

Atlantide/Atlantis

A short passage from "Atlantis", taken from my collection "The Man Who Forgot To Die"

"...the flooded terraces were overflowing with plenty of muddy water over the defined borders of their physical existence, in a liquid extension diving into the void, as if sneering at the brutal limitations of the concrete. The water kept stubbornly flowing, indifferent to human necessities, their daily duties, the umbrellas that had been left in the cars, or that were just growing lazy, thin and dry, in the halls of their homes..."

Lungo viaggio verso casa/My Long Journey Home

A short passage from "My Long Journey Home", taken from my collection "The Man Who Forgot To Die"

"...our conversation, then, went on along the contradictory tracks of a theatre of the absurd pièce. We sounded like a couple of characters out of an Ibsen drama, or voices coming out of a Kafkaesque short story. A couple of human beings, a thousand miles away from each other, who were desperately trying to find some common ground in their mutual pain.
My parents had just split up. They were growing apart, far from each other, like pieces of land at the mercy of the continental drift. They were living their lives in the other half’s absence, like millions of other people in the world. That thought did not help. I did not care about this event disrupting the whole planet, like an unexpected pandemic. What was touching a raw nerve, was the awareness that my family had not been spared by the virus..."

...pensieri.../...thoughts...

...letting yourself go, upside down, towards the hypnotic call of the abyss, an elastic rope as the only link to the tangible reality of land, jumping towards a possible ending...
...being pulled out of the womb, upside down, letting yourself go to the tight hold of unfamiliar hands, the umbilical cord as the only link to the familiar reality of the amniotic darkness, a passage towards an unexpected beginning...

Crisalide/Chrysalis

A short passage from "Chrysalis", taken from my collection "The Man Who Forgot To Die"

"...I had just come out of my mother’s silent, loved and known womb and, though leaving it with difficulty, as if predicting some form of hostility from the outside world, I could not foretell the dramatic consequences that my birth would generate in my family. Had the premonition been stronger, I would not have surrendered to the forceps so easily..."

Bungee jumping

A short passage from "Bungee Jumping", taken from my collection "The Man Who Forgot To Die"

"...once again, my trainer was repeating word for word the long litany of his instructions, but I could not hear him. I was already seeing myself falling down like a stone, swooping down like a bird, or a diver in Acapulco, jumping off the cliff into the waves, looking for a rare pearl, some luminescent coral, to be given as a gift to his woman, anxiously waiting for him, on top of the rocks..."

A short passage from "Away From Me And Towards Him", taken from my collection "The Man Who Forgot To Die"

"...when I moved into his flat, it seemed to me that even his books were going to attack me from the shelves, like furious white blood cells at the intrusion of a lethal virus, ready to phagocytosis. Everything he owned seemed to avoid me, flowing away from me and towards him..."

Eterno duello/Endless Duel

A short passage from "Endless Duel", taken from my collection "The Man Who Forgot To Die"

"...what brings us together is a cerebral challenge, more than just a seduction game. But it is also a battle of burning, fugitive glances, the tangible crackling of the electric friction between our bodies, the eternal fight between the white of her diaphanous skin, and the black of my restless eyes in front of her. Our game of chess is but a mere pretext, we know it well, but we both enjoy the subtlety of this imaginary, secret reality, a microcosm to share between us, and nobody else..."
